5 September 2012 - The Obama Campaign's ad for the Democratic National Convention featured the president acting in a sketch alongside famed stoners John Cho and Kal Penn, who appeared watching cartoons on the munchie-littered sofa of their bong-toking counterparts Harold and Kumar.
Publicising this weeks Democratic National Convention, the ad featured the president making an important sounding phonecall to someone later revieled to be Penn, who worked for the Obama administration in between making the cannabis flicks. Penn was the host of the convention, lending his relaxed image to the campaign; an effort that will surely be influencial in claiming the younger voters.
But what does this say about the presidents policies on pot?
He famously smoked pot as a child in hawaii, hired a man (Penn) who is known around the world for his portrayal of a big-time smoker, and is now even using stoner-movie referances in his campaign ad's.
Tom Angell, media relations director for Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) was quoted by the Denver Westwood Blog voicing his displeasure with President Obama’s marijuana policy and his use of Cho and Penn, ”Under Obama’s marijuana policies, Harold and Kumar could easily be two of the 850,000 marijuana arrests that happen in this country every year. If the rampant marijuana arrest policies that Obama’s federal grant programs now fund had gotten to them at some point."
