17 August 2012 - Brazilian artisit, Fernando de la Roque, has broken the mold somewhat with his latest masterpiece named "Blow Job". The artist blows pure marijuana smoke to dye the canvas in order to create images of political and religious figures.
Rocque first creates the images as stensils, and after laying them on the canvas, he lights a large blunt and sets to work on his project. The smoke is used to dye, paint and shade the necessary areas. Rocque feels that his art is as much a political statement as much as an artistic one: he is in favor of decriminalizing cannabis. He wrote in a press release that "more important than freedom to smoke marijuana is the freedom to think about it and make art with it."
Rocque has made the news before with his unconventional take on creating art. One of his first projects, "The Golden Cockroach", gave audiences what they were expecting; Rocque had painted them gold and pull them up for sale. He told Time Out Rio de Janeiro that: "I wanted to counteract this power to repel with the power that gold has to attract. An ugly form coupled with a beautiful color."
