10 August 2012 - Jody Latham, former star of British series Eastenders and Channel 4's Shamless, is to appear in court after being charged with cannabis production.
The 30-year-old actor, best known for his roll as Phillip 'Lip' Gallagher in the channel 4 series, the outspoken and intelligent son of wash-out Frank Gallager, was arrested alongside his girlfriend, Sarah Melia, when police found twenty-five marijuana plants at his Manchester home. The plants are estimated to have a potential street value of around €16,000, according to the Daily Mail.
Latham revealed he was facing bankrupcy last year. Many fans saw the irony of this arrest given that the actor's two major rolls involved him participating in criminal activity: as a member of the down-and-out Gallagher family in Shameless, and as pimp Grayson in Eastenders.
