1969-2009 - Next month will mark the 40th anniversery of the most legendary music festival in modern history.The Woodstock Music and Art Festival was the biggest and most famous rock festival of its era. Held at Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, New York, on 15, 16, and 17 August 1969, the festival bears the name "Woodstock" because it was originally scheduled to take place in the town of Woodstock. However, local opposition arose, and the event was almost cancelled altogether. Organizer Sam Yasgur persuaded his father to allow the concert to be held on the family's property.
