18 July 2009 - Dutch beatnik poet, writer and patron of Holland’s cannabis culture, Simon Vinkenoog, was buried today at the St. Barbara cemetery in Amsterdam.
Loved ones wrote little farewell notes on the casket, such as “So long” and "Never to old for a happy childhood". His wife recited a poem by Allan Ginsberg and 1950’s Jazz played while friends and admirers left flowers, joints and a potted cannabis plant at the renowned artist's graveside.
Dutch Queen Beatrix sent her condolences from her summer residence in Italy, stating “With this man the world has lost an unique writer”.
