26 Jan 2012 - Oscar Nominee Brad Pitt said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Magazine his marijuana smoking got out of control in the late 90's because he was trying to escape the pressures of fame.
He told The Hollywood Reporter magazine: "I got really sick of myself at the end of the 1990's. I was hiding out from the celebrity thing, I was smoking way too much dope, I was sitting on the couch and just turning into a doughnut and I really got irritated with myself." It's not the first time Pitt admits he was smoking too much and that he became very sheltered and bored. In 2009 he admitted to Parade Magazine that he was smoking too much cannabis.
This time Pitt admits he wanted to get away from it all. The publication's executive features editor Stephen Galloway revealed the actor blamed his drug use to a small depression. "He said it's like he had a semester of depression," Galloway said. "He hasn't had that in this decade, but he definitely wrestled with it in the past."
Last year, the 48-year-old Hollywood star - who was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for Moneyball this week - even quit smoking regularly cigarettes after being caught puffing by two of his children, daughters Zahara and Shiloh.
24 May 2010 - Brad Pitt reportedly wants to legalize marijuana in the United States. A source close to the "Ocean's Twelve actor told IUC World that he is "obsessed with legalizing pot." The source added that the reason behind his obsession was his belief that "it would be the biggest moneymaker since the Internet."
In the same report, it was mentioned that a source also claimed that the 46-year-old actor is interested in trying his hand at politics. Of the matter, the source explained, "There's not much left for him to do in Hollywood. Brad feels there's a lot more for him to do in politics, especially considering the rough years the world has experienced recently. Brad will run for Senate and if all goes well will mount a bid to become President in 2016."
13 March 2010 - Author Jenny Paul claims in her book Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie: the true story, that back in 2005 Brad Pitt nearly got himself and his wife arrested for pot possession in Kenya. It was reported that the famous actors got so loud in their lovemaking that Kenyan police burst in their hotel room. But the author claims the truth is the cops were called because someone in the hotel smelled marijuana. Police came and raided the couple's room but found nothing.
19 Augustus 2009 - Quentin Tarantino says Brad Pitt gave him a big piece of hashish while the pair were boozing up on wine last summer.The director went to Brad Pitt's French home last year, in a bid to get him to sign up for his new film, Inglourious Basterds, he says. According to Tarantino, Pitt's partner Angelina Jolie was resting in hospital after she had given birth to the couple's twins. One of the "coolest" things Pitt did, Tarantino says, was to "pull out a brick of hash" and give him a piece of it.
15 Aug 2009 - Last night actor and celebrity stoner Brad Pitt appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher, where he talked politics, media and marijuana.
Bill Maher recalls being at a New Year's Eve party with Brad many years ago (Brad interrupts: "It wasn't me!"), and how he remembered Brad's incredible ability to roll joints. Bill said, "You just, all night rolled these perfect joints...the most perfect joints I have ever seen, like a machine, like a cigarette, it was better than a cigarette."
