A peculiar incident following his pneumonia-induced coma is also said to have been instumental in his decision to give up pot. The London born singer awoke with a rural, west English accent! Although supposedy unrelated to cannabis use, it was a sure sign to Michael that he needed to slow down his hectic lifestyle.
23 Aug 2011 - At the start of his latest tour Symphonica The Orchestral George Michael welcomed the audience to ''a very different evening with George Michael'', adding ''I've got to tell you, I'm shitting myself.'' The star told fans about his use of cannabis in the past, saying he once passed out on the phone to singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright while congratulating him on a new song.
''I was puffing and I passed out on the phone,'' he said, adding jokingly: ''I have no idea how that conversation ended.''
15 Oct 2010 - George Michael has not checked into rehab following his release from prison after the 4th of July incident, as previously rumored. Michael's partner, Kenny Goss, denies the singer has sought treatment for his marijuana addiction after serving 27 days of his 8 weeks sentence for possession of marijuana and driving under the influence of it.
Kenny Goss says those rumors are "nonsense" and that the singer is relaxing at home.
11 Oct 2010 - George Michael has been released from prison after serving half of an eight-week sentence for crashing his car while under the influence of cannabis.
Michael, 47, was freed from Highpoint prison, near Haverhill in Suffolk, according to the Press Association. The Prison Service refused to comment on individual prisoners.
The former Wham! star was jailed on 14 September after he admitted driving while unfit through drugs and possessing two cannabis cigarettes.
