howard-marks16 June 2009 - Welsh actor Rhys Ifans insisted Howard Marks took him on a drug-fuelled night out so he could study his behaviour for the new movie ‘Mr. Nice’, in which he plays the part of the infamous Welsh cannabis smuggler.

Rhys Ifans went on a “really heavy” drug binge to prepare for his new movie.

Subject of the 'research', the former hash and marijuana smuggler Marks, revealed: “Rhys is great – he’s one of those method actors and really lives the part. So he wanted to go on some real big benders with me to see how I am when I’m really off my head.

2. In The Making: Pot-Smuggler Movie 'Mr. Nice'

howard-marks24 Jan 2009 - Wales, UK - "Mr. Nice," a movie about the famed British drug smuggler Howard Marks, will begin filming this year in Wales. The movie stars actor Rhys Ifans as Marks and Chloe Sevigny as his wife, Judy Marks.

"Mr. Nice" is based on Marks' autobiography of the same title. Marks had a 20-year career smuggling cannabis after studying and graduating from Bailiol College in Oxford, the University of London and the University of Sussex. Marks cultivated ties with the Irish Republic Army and eventually became a spy for Britain.

According to his book, Marks became a drug smuggler in part to impress his wife.
