October 18 1969 - Paul Kantner, cofounder of Jefferson Airplane, was arrested in Hawaii for marijuana possession.He was introduced to cannabis around 1959 by future Jefferson Airplane lead guitarist Jorma Kaukonen.At some point, Kantner and some of the other folkies set up the Folklore Center in a corner of the club Offstage and started to sell guitar picks, strings and marijuana.Also a political anarchist, Kantner is now an advocate of the use of psychedelic drugs such as LSD for mind expansion and spiritual growth, and is a prominent advocate of the legalization of marijuana.
