1. Larry Hagman: "It's A Medicine"
(Friends (H/Larry Hagman)

larry hagman17 January 2012 - American TV superstar Larry Hagman, who found legendary status as JR in 80's hit Dallas, was diagnosed last year with cancer of the throat, but the 80-year old actor was recently glad to announce that he is now in remission.

The actor, famed for his drinking and smoking on and off screen, has found a relatively surprising alternative to the alcohol that resulted in him requiring a liver transplant in 1995: marijuana.

During chemotherapy Hagman discovered the pain relieving properties of the plant, and now advocates is use, saying that it's "a medicine", and praising the drug as "much better than alcohol or tobacco and hasn't killed anyone".

"The cancer and the chemotherapy really took it out of me," he said, in an interview with German magazine "I lost 30 pounds, weighed only 171 pounds. Marijuana actually brought my appetite back". Hagman needs to be fighting fit for his return to the role he's known for in the revival of the series that started earlier this year.

2. Larry Hagman:"With grass you sit back and enjoy life."
(Friends (H/Larry Hagman)

Larry Hagman2001 - Some surprising tales of pot use and acid trips were to be found in the recently released autobiography of Larry Hagman, known for his portrayal of Captain Nelson on I Dream of Jeannie and JR Ewing on the blockbuster series Dallas. In his new book, Hello Darlin', Hagman describes the first time he tried pot. "I was down in Acapulco, and [Jack Nicholson] said, 'You're drinking too much,' and he was right. So he said, 'Smoke this stuff,' and I did, and it opened me up to a lot of things too. It's a calming drug. It's not a drug; it's an herb."

Although Hagman says he no longer tokes and is on a "12-step program," he explains that marijuana "is benign compared to alcohol. When you come right down to it, alcohol destroys your body and makes you do violent things. With grass you sit back and enjoy life."
